Waterloo, Ontario – RIM will integrate ooVoo’s HD videochat app into the BlackBerry 10 devices that RIM is launching, the companies announced.
The ooVoo app, due on the BlackBerry World storefront later this year, will integrate into the basic calling functionality in BlackBerry 10 devices, making it possible to shift from a standard voice call to an ooVoo video call, the companies said. Video chats are free.
The app will enable users to video chat, share videos, and send instant messages to almost any computer or mobile device, not just to other ooVoo-equipped BlackBerry phones, the companies noted. Up to 12 contacts can connect at the same time. ooVoo has 66 million registered subscribers.
The app’s Watch Together feature lets users have group video viewing experiences within video calls.
