Minneapolis – Best Buy will air a Super Bowl commercial for the third consecutive year next month.
The latest spot will feature comedienne and actress Amy Poehler, who “brings the Best Buy story to life for millions of football and advertising fans in a very funny and compelling way,” the retailer said.
“Amy Poehler’s Golden Globe performance left us all wanting to see more of her,” said Scott Durchslag, Best Buy’s digital and marketing senior VP and president of BestBuy.com and e-commerce. “We are thrilled to feature her in our commercial this year and bring the public another dose of her unparalleled humor. We know people have high expectations for these ads, and Amy delivers a whole new dimension of entertainment.”
Best Buy’s first Super Bowl spot featured a futuristic Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osbourne in a pitch for the retailer’s now controversial buyback program. The following year it profiled mobile phone innovators to tout its wireless services.
Industry observers were unsure whether the company would follow up for a third year given its recent earnings declines, management shakeup and takeover challenges.
The latest ad, which will air during the first quarter, was filmed in Los Angeles by commercial director Bryan Buckley. According to IMDb, Buckley was dubbed “King of the Superbowl” by the New York Times, having directed over 40 commercials for the big game between 2000 and 2010.
Super Bowl XLVII will kick off Feb. 3.
This TWICE webinar, hosted by senior editor Alan Wolf, will take a look at what may be the hottest CE products at retail that will be sold during the all-important fourth quarter. Top technologies, market strategies and industry trends will be discussed with industry analysts and executives.
