Dallas — AT&T is adding more data to its prepaid GoPhone smartphone plans at no extra cost starting April 25.
The new plans, which access the carrier’s LTE network, also add the ability to use a smartphone as a Wi-Fi hot spot.
With the change, the data allotment for the $60/month plan goes to 2.5GB from 2GB. The plan also features unlimited talk.
The $40/month plan, which features 500 minutes of talk, boosts the data cap to 500MB from 250MB.
In other GoPhone changes, a new $45/month smartphone plan, available at Walmart stores nationwide, offers 1GB of data and unlimited talk.
The carrier is also improving its selection of basic/messaging phone plans with a new $45/month plan that includes unlimited data, unlimited talk and text, and unlimited texts to Mexico, Canada and more than 100 select countries.
Though data is unlimited, data at 3G speeds is not. The first 2GB of data consumed arrive at 3G speeds. After that, speeds are slowed to a maximum 128Kbps for the remainder of 30-day billing period. Basic phones do not access AT&T’s 4G network.
