AT&T Readies Two LTE Tablets

Dallas – AT&T announced the pricing and availability of two new LTE-equipped tablets, both from Samsung.

The Intel-based ATIV Smart PC, which runs Windows 8 and features detachable keyboard, is priced at $799, and the 4G LTE-equipped Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 with Android 4.0 is priced at $499. Both will be available Nov. 9 through AT&T stores but also through indirect retailers, a spokesperson told TWICE.

 AT&T will beat rivals Sprint and T-Mobile by a few days in offering a cellular-equipped Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, which features 1.5GHz dual-core processor. Sprint plans Nov. 11 availabilityof an LTE-equipped Tab 2 10.1 at $549, making it the carrier’s first LTE tablet. T-Mobile announced Nov. 14 availability for a Tab 2 10.1 with 4G HSPA+42 technology in online and retail outlets at $349 after a $50 mail-in rebate and Classic data plan. Activated on T-Mobile’s lower cost Value Mobile Broadband Plan, the tablet will cost $199 up front plus 20 monthly payments of $15/month.

 A Wi-Fi-only version of the tablet is already available in stores.

The Tab 2 10.1 is positioned by AT&T as “ideal for users interested in a blend of entertainment and productivity features,” while the Intel-based ATIV Smart PC is described as offering a “blend of PC capability with the convenient tablet form factor,” thanks to the detachable keyboard.

The ATIV Smart PC features 11.6-inch HD PLS display, 64GB of internal storage memory, microSD card slot to support up to an additional 32GB of memory, and Intel Atom dual-core processor up to 1.5GHz. It comes installed with Windows 8 but can be upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. It is also backward compatible with all existing software and applications that run on older Windows OSs such as Windows 7, Vista, and XP. ATIV smart PC also comes preloaded with a trial version of Microsoft Office 2010.

ATIV is Samsung’s brand for Windows 8 products, including Smart PCs, tablets and Windows Phone 8 for smartphones.

The Smart PC will also be available with a $49 Stand Dock, which charges the device and is equipped with built-in USB port and Ethernet (RJ45) port. A $40 VGA adapter will also be to connect the ATIV smart PC to external displays, monitors and projectors for second-screen viewing. Both accessories will be sold at www.wireless.att.com
