Dallas – AT&T priced Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at $249 and said it would accept preorders beginning April 16.
The carrier didn’t say when the phone would be available to consumers, but T-Mobile said earlier this week that it would offer the S4 around May 1 for $99 down and 20 payments of $20.
Other U.S. carriers haven’t announced pricing or specific availability dates.
In launching the handset in mid March at a Radio City Music Hall event attended by thousands, Samsung Mobile president J. K. Shin said the device would be available through 327 carriers in 155 countries starting at the end of April. Cricket, Sprint, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular also plan to offer the phone.
AT&T’s premium price compares to the $199 price set by it and Verizon Wireless for the new BlackBerry Z10 flagship. The iPhone 5 is priced at $199 to $399 for versions with 16GB to 64GB of storage.
