San Francisco – Apple asked a federal district court here to issue a preliminary injunction banning the sale of eight Samsung smartphones, most of them Galaxy models, found by a jury to be among the 25 smartphones and tablets that infringe on Apple patents.
The ban, if imposed, would apply to the Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy SII on the AT&T network, Galaxy SII Skyrocket, Galaxy SII on the T-Mobile network, Galaxy SII Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail. All are currently on the market.
A preliminary injunction on the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet is already in effect.
Apple’s lawsuit did not involve some of Samsung’s newest products, including Samsung’s new flagship Galaxy SIII smartphone, Galaxy Note hybrid smartphone/tablet, or the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.
Last Friday, a jury found 25 Samsung phones and tablets to infringe on Apple patents and penalized Samsung $1.05 billion. Samsung vows to appeal the verdict, whose penalties could be increased three-fold by the presiding federal judge because the jury found five instances in which Samsung willfully infringed patents.
