Seattle — Amazon is opening up sales of its Kindle devices to independent booksellers and giving these stores a commission on Kindle e-books purchased via the device sold.
The independent book stores participating in the program, called Amazon Source, will be able to make a profit in two ways. First, the stores will be able to purchase Kindles and their accessories at a lower price. Next, the bookseller will receive a 10 percent commission on each book purchased using the Kindles sold through their stores; however, the latter offer only lasts for the first two years after the Kindle’s purchase.
The American Booksellers Association stated that there are about 1,900 independent book-selling locations in the United States.
