Volvo, Ericsson Make Auto Connection

Las Vegas  The Volvo Car Group announced the launch of its Sensus Connect, an onboard infotainment and navigation solution that is built on Ericsson’s Connected Vehicle Cloud.

The onboard experience will combine connected services, infotainment, navigation and audio, including the first ever solution utilizing built-in connectivity supported by Pandora Internet Radio.

This brand new in-car experience will provide drivers with a novel take on driving, offering users tens of thousands of radio stations, and the ability to enter a car that is pre-heated or pre-cooled via remote-start functionality from a mobile phone.

Sensus Connect will also offer navigation solutions, including an upgraded navigation system with 3D graphics and lifetime map updates, as well as a Park&Pay by Parkopedia solution to find available parking spots and even pay directly from the car. The HERE by Nokia will also provide seamless and connected navigation for drivers.

Ericsson also outlined some of the features that its Connected Vehicle Cloud will provide to Volvo automobiles, and this included a refreshed HMI with graphically themed center and driver displays, voice control, a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car as well as smartphone tethering and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Sensus Connect will be available overseas from May 2014 in all Volvo models.
