LAS VEGAS — ViewSonic today expanded its new Smart Display computer line, and added several new touchscreen monitors and a 4K Ultra HD display at International CES.
The 24-inch VSD240 Smart Display, which joins the previously announced VSD220, is a 24-inch display that shares many features with a very large tablet or an all-in-one PC. However, ViewSonic prefers to refer to these products as secondary monitors.
The VSD240 will carry a $499 price tag and ship in April. The 22-inch VSD220 shipped in October at $399.
Like a tablet the VSD240 uses an Nvidia Tegra 3 1.7GHz quad-core processor and a Texas Instruments smart multi-core OMAP 4 processor for an improved web viewing and online experience, the company said. It runs on the Android 4.1 operating system.
The 1,920 by 1,080 resolution 24-inch display has two-point touch capability that is geared to help usher in a post-PC world where most computer activity takes places via the Cloud, the company said.
The VSD240 has a USB and HDMI ports, Ethernet jack, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. There is a 1.3-megapixel webcam and microphone for video chat.
ViewSonic’s monitor introductions are the TD2340, TD2740 and the TD3240. All three are Windows 8 certified with 10-point multi-touch capability and 1,920 by 1,080 FullHD resolution. All feature SRS premiums sound speakers and are Energy Star and EPEAT Silver certificate rated.
The 23-inch TD2340, shipping in January at $599, has a dual-hinge stand capable of being adjusted four ways, including laying flat.
The 27-inch TD2740, shipping in April with a $799 price tag, has what the company called a “picture frame” stand and an integrated webcam.
The 32-inch TD3240 is intended for the retail signage industry featuring an optional stand and hardened screen for high traffic usage. It will ship in April with a $2,499 street price.
The company is also giving an early glimpse at its 4K Ultra HD displays. These are designed for high-end prosumer use or as a television. The company said it has no immediate plans to produce the display, but it will quickly be able to jump into the category once market conditions warrant such a move.
