LAS VEGAS — Sony is unveiling five new compact digital cameras at International CES 2013, all of which place a strong emphasis on value and affordability.
All models are scheduled to ship to dealers in January.
The latest entry level Cyber-shot is the W170, which will carry a $99 suggested retail. It features a 16.1-megapixel CCD sensor, 5x optical zoom, 2.7-inch LCD and Steady Shot.
Sony also has a new $199 take-anywhere camera in the Cyber-shot TF1. It has a 16-megapixel CCD with a 4x optical zoom. Similar to other “tough” models in the market, it’s waterproof (to 33 feet), dust-proof, shock-proof and freeze-proof. It takes 720p videos with an Optical SteadyShot function and has a new Intelligent Flash with expanded range and brightness.
The W730 ($139) has the same sensor and feature set but a more powerful 8x zoom.
The $199 Cyber-shot WX80 steps up to a 20.1-megapixel CMOS imaging device and 8x optical zoom. Not only does it have better video quality (1,920 by 1,080/60i) with Optical SteadyShot, but it has built-in Wi-Fi to easily share content using the Sony PlayMemories Mobile app.
Sony’s newest mega-zoom camera is the Cyber-shot DSC-H200 ($249). The camera has and SLR-look body design, a 20-megapixel CCD, 3-inch LCD and 26x optical zoom lens. It uses AA batteries and captures 720p movies.
