NEW YORK — Kazuhiro Tsuga, incoming president of Panasonic Corporation, will deliver the opening keynote address at the 2013 International CES. This was among other announcements made by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), producer and owner of CES, last Wednesday.
CEA also said it will partner with the International Academy of Web Television (IAWTV) on an expanded awards program, and that a new charitable foundation has been set up by CEA.

Tsuga, who was just approved that morning by Panasonic shareholders as president during its general meeting of shareholders in Osaka, Japan, will do his keynote at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, in the Venetian’s Palazzo Ballroom, immediately following a State of the CE Industry keynote address by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA.
“Panasonic is one of the largest and most dynamic consumer electronics companies in the world, and I congratulate Mr. Tsuga on his official appointment to president of Panasonic Corporation this morning. We are thrilled to have Mr. Tsuga take the stage for his opening keynote at the 2013 International CES, and we look forward to hearing his vision for the future of Panasonic and its leadership in green innovation,” said Shapiro.
Prior to taking on this leadership role for Panasonic, Tsuga was president of AVC Networks Company, the internal arm responsible for Panasonic’s audiovisual and information technology equipment business. Concurrently, he served as senior managing director and was a member of the board.
The IAWTV will have an expanded awards program at the 2013 CES, with the 2013 IAWTV Awards show held Jan. 8 at The Venetian.
The IAWTV Awards, voted on by the members of the IAWTV, honors and promotes excellence in web television. It is the only show for the creators and by the creators, and whose proceeds support the education and promotion of the global online video industry. Proceeds from the 2012 IAWTV Awards funded a comprehensive series of monthly educational programs in a partnership with YouTube in New York and Los Angeles, which have been recorded for future distribution to the web television community across the world.
Finally, CEA announced the launch of its charitable supporting organization, the CEA Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to link seniors and people with disabilities with technology to enhance their lives. The leadership of the CEA Foundation includes Voxx International founder John Shalam, who serves as chairman of the CEA Foundation; Larry Richenstein, vice chairman; and Veronica O’Connell, secretary and treasurer.
The CEA Foundation announced that Selfhelp Community Services (Selfhelp), an eldercare service organization based in New York City, is its first grantee. Selfhelp’s Virtual Senior Center enhances the lives of homebound seniors by using computer, video and Internet technology in seniors’ homes and at local senior centers to create an interactive experience that reduces social isolation, promotes wellness and provides better access to community services.
“The goal of the CEA Foundation is to use our considerable resources and access to technology to bring that technology to people who would otherwise never get to use it,” said Shalam.
