CompUSA Bows 1st Cozone Store

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/25/2001

SAN DIEGO— Cozone lives.

CompUSA has revived the name of its long defunct e-commerce site for use in a new boutique-style offshoot. Cozone's first brick & mortar incarnation, which debuted here earlier this month, is a 5,000-square-foot shop with a focus on mobile products, including laptops, PDA's, pagers, cell phones, MP3, GPS and portable DVD players.

The format, which CompUSA describes as "intimate," incorporates wood-tone floors, high-tech lighting fixtures with warm tones and a large interactive plasma screen that serves as a focal point. The store also features electronic service kiosks and an Internet café where consumers can check email and surf the Web.

Three more units are planned for Reston and Arlington, Va., and Southlake, Texas, over the next few months.
