Lowest Priced MP3 Due From Jensen

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 6/25/2001

LAKE MARY, FLA.— Jensen plans to deliver this summer two of the lowest priced in-dash MP3 players to date, bringing the price for this new technology down to a record low of $249, according to the company.

The two new models, called the MP5010K and MP3510, are the company's first MP3 units. The 5010K is an AM/FM/CD with MP3 capability. It has a built-in 60 by 4 watt amplifier, subwoofer output, rotary volume knob and an auxiliary input for a multimedia source. It ships this month at a retail price of $279.

It will be joined in July by the MP3510, another AM/FM/CD with MP3 but with a lower powered amplifier at 45 by 4 watts, a standard volume knob and no subwoofer output. The MP3510 is expected to carry a retail price of $249.

Both models play CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs. Jensen said it is also working on in-dash MP3 models that will be WMA as well as MP3 capable.

The company also recently began shipping its new SX line of speakers with anodized blue cones and caps and new two-way swivel tweeters. The line ranges from 4-inch speakers to 6 x 9-inch three-way speakers to a 12-inch subwoofer at prices starting at $24.95 per pair.
