Olympus Digicam Lives Longer

Staff -- TWICE, 6/11/2001

MELVILLE, N.Y. — Olympus America last week introduced the D-370 consumer digital camera, a replacement for its D-360L camera.

The D-370 will have a $249 suggested retail price and ships in August.

The camera seeks to address a major consumer complaint regarding digital cameras: short battery life. The D-370 comes with a newly developed long-life battery circuit that allows for an increased number of shots in normal operation with 4 AA alkaline batteries (while using the LCD display and flash 50 percent of the time). With the LCD and flash turned off the camera can capture thousands of images with the same AA alkaline batteries. When Olympus' long-life LB01 (CR3V) batteries are used, battery-life is extended by about 3 times.

The D-370 features 1.3-megapixel resolution, clamshell design and 2MB of internal memory or optional SmartMedia removable memory. It has a focus-free 4.5mm, f4-f8 all-glass lens.
