Coby Cellular Accessory 'Self-Contained'

Staff -- TWICE, 5/28/2001

MASPETH, N.Y. — Coby Electronics is offering what it calls the "only totally self-contained" hands-free speakerphone accessory that does not require utilizing the microphone of the cellular telephone.

Called the CAM500, the unit is said to operate without any static, feedback, background noise, buzzing or humming. It also has no tunnel effect. The product is totally portable and usage does not have to be limited to time spent driving an automobile.

The CAM500 can be operated by either batteries or by the supplied DC adapter, which comes in the package. Also included are Nokia and Ericsson adapters. Combined with the 2.5mm jack that is hard-wired to the unit, the potential market base is more than 90 percent of all cellular telephones in operation, the company said.

Suggested retail is $29.99 and the company said it would begin rolling out the product this month.
