Kensington Turns On the Computer Light

Staff -- TWICE, 5/28/2001

SAN MATEO, CALIF. — Kensington Technology Group is lighting up the night with its FlyLight Notebook USB Light, a portable light that plugs into the USP port of any Mac or PC, allowing laptop users to work when it would otherwise be inconvenient, or even impossible.

The FlyLight, designed for air travelers, conference-room presentations or just working in bed, uses almost no power, and the light source lasts up to 11 years, according to Kensington. The unit has a flexible gooseneck cable that sheds a soft, glowing light and it uses less than 90 seconds of laptop energy per hour. It needs no batteries or replacement bulbs.

The FlyLight notebook light uses special Plug-n-Glow technology that allows users to plug it in at any time, with the power either on or off. It uses white LED technology that provides a gentle glowing light source that operates off the computer, without switches, and a design that has nothing to break. Suggested retail is $19.99.

Kensington also is offering its Turbo Mouse Pro trackball that is said to allow users to dramatically enhance the performance of their Macs. Six Direct Launch buttons can be pre-set to instantly access favorite Web sites or launch important applications. Four, large programmable mouse buttons streamline repetitive tasks, and an integrated scroll wheel lets users move quickly through long documents or Web pages. Suggested retail is $109.99.
