Konica Unveils 'Digital Photo Studio in a Box'

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 5/28/2001

MAHWAH, N.J. — Digital convergence has struck again, but this time with a twist, as Konica introduces its SnapShare system that bundles a digital camera, scanner, software and one-month free Internet access.

According to Konica, the package was designed to be a "one box" solution for consumers interested in digital imaging.

The SnapShare System, which the company dubbed a "digital photo studio in a box," incorporates Konica's e-mini M digital camera (with MP3 player, audio recorder and PC cam capability), a Hewlett-Packard scanner, Corel software, SanDisk memory card, Konica inkjet paper and one free month of Internet access from AT&T WorldNet Service.

It is shipping now and carries a suggested retail price of $299.

The system's scanner is the Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 3300Cse, which scans and color copies photos and artwork up to 8.5 x11.7 inches for photo sharing, text recognition and document copying.

The software, Corel Print House 2000, is a home publishing solution featuring customizable templates and photo-editing capabilities. SanDisk has kicked in an 8MB CompactFlash memory card, which can capture 132 normal images, 250 economy images or eight minutes of recorded audio on the Konica e-mini-M digital still camera.
