Long Beach, Calif. — Epson America introduced Tuesday Epson MovieMate 55, 3LCD combo projector with a built-in DVD player.

The 480p Epson MovieMate 55, which ships in October at a $699 estimated street retail, offers a brighter lamp than previous models and Dolby Digital audio support for home theater playback on the go. The unit will also allow connection to portable media players for playback on the big screen.

The MovieMate 55 adds a photo slideshow application for showing digital images from photo CDs and USB flash drives and can connect to a PC or Mac to show content from the computer.

The projector is based on 3LCD technology and uses an E-TORL lamp.

“Epson is the world’s number one selling brand of projectors because Epson listens closely to its customers’ needs,” stated Rajeev Mishra, Epson America projector marketing and development director. “Epson MovieMate projectors can transform any space into a home theater environment. Anyone can enjoy the simple setup, transport and operation of these easy-to-use and portable projectors.”

The compact unit weighs 8.3 pounds, and has a sleek cabinet design a built-in handle and cushioned carrying case.

It will project a 16:9 widescreen 60-inch image from a six-foot throw distance or a 120-inch image from 12 feet away.

Audio is handled using two built-in 8-watt, 5.1-channel Dolby Digital DTS speakers. The E-TORL lamp outputs up to 1,200 lumens of brightness.

Epson will support the projector with a two-year limited warranty with toll-free access to PrivateLineSM, Epson’s priority technical support, and free overnight exchange with ExtraCareSM Home Service.
