Krillion CE Search Site Adds New Categories

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 8/18/2008 2:16:00 PM

Mountain View, Calif. — Krillion, a product search index that provides shoppers with real-time inventory availability at 20,000 big-box storefronts across the country, has added 96 product categories to its database.

The Web site, located at www.krillion.com, now offers location-specific inventory information on 900 brands in 155 product categories, representing more than 1 billion SKUs, the company said.

New categories now tracked by Krillion’s local search index include laptop and desktop computers, printers, copiers, fax machines, scanners, car audio and electronics, GPS navigation systems, home audio/home theater, portable audio/MP3 players and satellite radio.

The site also tracks down pricing and availability for lawn and garden products and tools and hardware.

“Consumer use of the Web for conducting product research prior to purchase has grown rapidly across all product categories, yet the Web does a poor job of providing online shoppers with precise information on where to find what they want locally, right now,” said Joel Toledano, CEO of Krillion. “Our research indicates manufacturers’ Web sites are an especially important resource for online shoppers as they research which product to buy. By broadening the scope of the products we track in our index and making this information available to manufacturers and other publishers through our dynamic local search platform, we make it possible for our clients and partners to give their customers something that millions have said they want: up-to-the-minute local pricing and availability information on the product they want to buy, so they can pick it up today.”

Founded in 2006, Krillion aggregates information from partner companies and Web sites to create an index of products, retailers, locations and in-store stock availability for 40,000 cities across the United States, enabling shoppers to readily find, compare and buy products at nearby brick-and-mortar stores.
