Sony Adds T-Series Cyber-shots

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 8/7/2008

San Diego — Sony will ship a pair of 10-megapixel T-series digital cameras to dealers in September, including its thinnest model to date.

The DSC-T77 garnishes the thinnest honors. The camera sports a 3-inch touchscreen LCD, Sony’s Smile Shutter with child- and adult-priority modes, and an updated version of its intelligent scene-recognition technology that can now access eight different scene modes (from a prior five).

The camera also features a new anti-blink mode when in the portrait setting that records two images and analyzes them to see if a subject’s eyes are closed. It will only save an image with the subject’s eyes open. If the subject’s eyes are closed in both shots, the camera will record one and display a warning.

Sony’s Smile Shutter has also been updated. It will now appear as a permanent icon on the LCD screen that can be activated and deactivated by pressing it.

The camera also features a new 4x optical zoom Carl Zeiss lens with optical stabilization, 11 scene modes, 15MB of internal memory and ISO 3,200.

It will be sold in brown, green, pink, black and silver for $300.

The T700 will offer the same features as the T77 but adds 4GB worth of internal memory and a higher resolution, 3.5-inch touchpanel LCD. It will include the ability to search images stored in the camera by event, date, smile/face (including children or infants) or by calendar and chronological views.

Sony has added a new synchronization tool to its Picture Motion Browser software (included) that lets consumers download and resize images to VGA resolution and load them back into the T700 to preserve internal memory space.

The T700 will also feature built-in PMP Portable software that can automatically upload photos and videos to online sharing sites such as YouTube when the camera is connected via USB to an Internet-connected PC.

The T700 will retail for $400 and be available in red, gold, pink, dark gray and silver.
