San Jose — Acer America has introduced the Acer Aspire X1200 desktop.

The entertainment-oriented device features AMD e processors, NVIDIA GeForce 8200 on-board graphics and two PCI Express 2.0 slots.

“Aspire X1200 was designed to be an appealing, easy to use media hub for making the most of entertainment. From broadcasting MP3s in crystal clear acoustics to showcasing movies, this compact system is a multimedia powerhouse and available at a price today’s budget-minded consumers will appreciate,” said Stephanie Hatchel, senior manager, retail desktop product planning for Acer America.

The device measures 10.6-inches by 4-inches by 14.4-inches. It features a high-gloss coating, recessed venting and translucent plastic knobs on the speakers. It also offers nine USB 2.0 ports, a 14-in-1 card reader, IEEE 1394 port and audio jacks.

The machine is HDMI compatible and offers a SuperMulti Double-layer drive.

The Aspire X1200 will be offered in a variety of models. Some models will include an AMD Athlon X2 5000 processor and up to 4GB of DDR2 memory. Energy-efficient models featuring the AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 4850e processor are said to consume less power.

The device’s NVIDIA GeForce 8200 Chipset with PureVideo HD Technology allows it to support games with Microsoft DirectX 10. It also supports H.264, VC1 and MPEG2 video formats and offers high-definition audio with 7.1-channel audio support.

In terms of software, the device comes with Windows Vista Home Premium, Microsoft Office 2007 Trial with Microsoft Works 8.5, Adobe Reader, CyberLink Power DVD with Arcade Live. It is also bundled with a suite of management applications called Acer Empowering Technology, which includes eRecovery back-up and recovery and eSettings for viewing system information, changing boot options and monitoring components.

The Acer Aspire X1200 desktop PC is available now with suggested prices ranging from $449 to $699 depending on the configuration.
