Alesis Debuts ProTrack

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 7/7/2008

CUMBERLAND, R.I. — Alesis introduced what the company is calling the first professional handheld digital stereo recorder for the iPod.

The ProTrack, which secures the iPod into its design, is engineered for direct-to-iPod stereo digital recording.

Features include two built-in condenser microphones, a pair of combination XLR – 0.25-inch inputs for connection for external microphones and line sources, and a universal dock for the iPod.

It also has LED signal indicators. Four AAA alkaline batteries provide four to five hours of operation, according to the company, and a threaded mount is integrated for tabletop use on a camera tripod. An AC power adapter comes with the device.

The ProTrack works with the fifth-generation iPod, the Classic, or the second- and third-generation Nanos.

It is scheduled for third-quarter availability; the company would not provide pricing.
