Circuit Opens Second Manhattan ‘City’ Store

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 6/26/2008 10:08:00 AM

New York — Circuit City has opened its second The City store in Manhattan.

The 20,000-square-foot unit is located on the borough’s Upper West Side near Lincoln Center and — like its predecessor, which opened last fall in Midtown — is in close proximity to a Best Buy store.

The City is Circuit City’s next-generation store format that has a smaller but more productive footprint thanks to its narrow assortment of best-selling, high-margin products. The stores also feature quick-change modular fixtures, wireless tablet PCs that guide clerks through the sales process, and live displays that encourage customers to demo products.

The retailer currently operates 25 The City stores and is continuing to refine the concept and improve the operating model, CEO Phil Schoonover told analysts earlier this month.
