MartinLogan Goes Online

By Joseph Palenchar -- TWICE, 6/3/2008 9:00:00 AM

Lawrence, Kan. — MartinLogan has become the latest high-end home-speaker company to sell its products online.

The maker of electrostatic speakers appointed Amazon.com as its first authorized online dealer. Amazon is selling the brand’s entry-level Design series and all MartinLogan in-wall/in-ceiling speakers. Previously, MartinLogan’s only online presence was for a short-term promotion with Wired magazine’s holiday store in the 2007/2008 holiday season.

The Design series includes models priced up to a suggested $2,995/pair, with subwoofers priced up to $999 each. In-wall speakers are available up to a suggested $1,995 each. The products are available through the MartinLogan boutique at Amazon.com, where purchasers can also click on sponsored links to find installation services. Many of the Design series loudspeakers also qualify for Amazon.com’s free Super Saver Shipping or free two-day shipping for Amazon Prime members.

Noah Herschman, Amazon.com’s audio/video director, said his company will expose “the benefits of MartinLogan speakers to people who normally would not go into a consumer electronics store.”

“Amazon.com represents a new and exciting distribution opportunity,” said Mike Lyons, MartinLogan president and CEO. “Amazon is truly unique in their ability to offer consumers critical product information and assist each customer through the selection process.”

MartinLogan speakers range in price from a suggested $299 to more than $19,995, with subwoofers priced from $599 to $2,995.
