Microsoft Adds Web Cam To LifeCam Line

REDMOND, WASH. — Microsoft added to its LifeCam line of Web cams with the VX-5000.
The VX-5000 features a bendable attachment base that is designed to mold to "virtually any surface," said the company, so users can take it anywhere they would like.
It has a brightly colored ring around the front of the Web cam that will be offered in three colors — cool blue, lucky green and fire red — and comes with MSN Photo Swap, which is designed to enable users to share digital photos in mid-video conversation and see real-time reactions as both callers view the pictures. A Windows Live Call button is located on top of the Web cam, letting users to open their Contact Picker with one touch.
The LifeCam Dashboard contains the camera's navigational controls (pan, tilt, zoom, face tracking and video effects) within the Windows Live Messenger interface. A built-in unidirectional microphone with acoustic noise cancellation is included.
Video resolution of the VX-5000 stands at 640 by 480, with 1.3-megapixel still photography. It will be available in June for an estimated retail of $49.95. A three-year limited hardware warranty is included.
