Kodak Debuts All-In-One Printer

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 4/24/2008 10:28:00 AM

Rochester, N.Y. — Kodak will ship a new all-in-one printer to dealers this May.

The ESP 5 replaces the 5300 introduced last year. The printer will use the same Kodak ink-set debuted last year, with a $9.99 black-and-white and a $14.99 color cartridge.

Like its predecessor, the ESP 5 sports a 3-inch LCD and offers direct photo printing through memory card slots and a USB port, but will come in at a less-expensive $169 price point. It also includes the facial-retouching feature introduced in the ESP 3 in January.

kodakThe ESP 5 features prints speeds of a 4-inch by 6-inch photo in 30 seconds, and 30 pages per minute (ppm) in black or 29 ppm color.

Kodak introduced three inkjet all-in-ones last year and will likely have a larger line up for 2008 as it retains its focus on the high-print-volume customer with lower-cost consumables, said Steve Marzio, inkjet systems business manager.

The company sold roughly 500,000 printers in its first year back on the market and expects to sell “two or three times that” in 2008 as it moves into new retail channels, such as Target stores in the United States and outlets in Latin America, he added.
