ViewSonic, Imation Add Digital Frames

-- TWICE, 4/10/2008 9:37:00 AM

New York — A pair of manufacturers announced new digital frames yesterday, broadening their lineups in the ever-growing market.

Imation’s Memorex-branded digital frames will be sold in two versions through K-Mart stores in May: a special edition version, which bundles interchangeable baby and wedding themes, and a floral version.

The 7-inch special-occasion frames feature a 480 by 234 screen, SD card slot and a USB port. It bundles four interchangeable mattes — metallic silver, a wedding themed matte and mattes for a baby girl and baby boy.

The 7-inch floral frame features a four-in-one memory card slot, a mini USB port (cable included) and a 480 by 234 resolution display.

Both frames will retail for $89.99.

Walnut, Calif.-based ViewSonic will add 10 new digital frames to its lineup this month, ranging from 7 to 10 inches.

They feature 256MB of internal memory, a built-in battery and USB host/slave ports.

The 10-inch DPX1002 ($179) can play back Motion JPEG, MPEG-1/-4 video and MP3 audio and features a 1,024 by 600 resolution display with a 400:1 contrast ratio. The model also offers calendar and alarm clock functions and will bundle a remote control.

The 8-inch DPX802 will be sold in three versions: one with a wood frame, one in wood with an interchangeable black matte and one with interchangeable black, white and silver mattes. All will retail for $149. They sport 4:3 aspect ratio, 800 by 600 resolution displays with a 500:1 contrast ratio. They can also play back MP3 audio files.

The widescreen 7-inch DPX702 will similarly be offered in wood or with interchangeable mattes for $139. They offer an 800 by 480 resolution and 16:9 aspect display with a 400:1 contrast ratio.

ViewSonic will also sell a line of frames with 128MB of internal memory, a white finish, alarm clock and calendar functions, and the ability to playback digital video and audio files. The 7-inch widescreen DPX704WH, 8-inch 4:3 DPX804WH and 10-inch widescreen DPX1004WH will retail for $139, $149 and $179, respectively.
