GE Reveals New Laundry Pair, Dishwasher

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 2/25/2008

ORLANDO, FLA. — GE Consumer & Industrial introduced a new front-load laundry pair and steam-cleaning dishwasher under the Profile badge at this month's International Builders' Show.

The GE Profile SmartDispense washer features new H2ITION technology that senses the laundry load and automatically adds the correct amount of water. The unit features a 4.2-cubic-foot tub and a 1,300 rpm spin speed, and its reversing wash action works with a gentle motion that, along with a water injection system, provides excellent cleaning ability, the company said.

The washer and dryer also communicate via a CleanSpeak function that begins the drying process and eliminates guesswork about settings for the load. The pair will be available this summer in champagne, vermillion red or pure white, with a suggested retail of $1,300 for the washer and $1,100 for the dryer.

GE also showed its second-generation GE Profile dishwasher with SmartDispense technology, which dispenses appropriate amounts of detergent based on water hardness, cycle selection, and soil level of dishes. In addition, the SmartDispense2 dishwasher offers a deep-clean steam-wash program for heavily soiled dishes, and a pure-steam pre-wash option that helps pre-treat china and crystal. Top, front-control and customizable models will be available in stainless steel, black or white this August at a suggested retail range of $1,129 to $1,400.
