Oregon Scientific Bows Licensed Laptops

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 2/11/2008

TUALATIN, ORE. — Oregon Scientific is adding a host of licensed laptops to its line of electronic learning products. Late last year the company bowed its Darth Vader laptop, which is shaped like Darth Vader's mask when closed but opens to reveal a laptop intended for kids age 5 and up.

It features 50 learning activities that are said to teach a variety of spelling, vocablulary, math, memory, logic, music and keyboard skills. The device has a QWERTY keyboard and the child can also interact with the games via a "light saber." The laptop runs on three AAA batteries, which are included. It carries a suggested retail of $59.99.

According to an Oregon Scientific spokesperson, the company has plans to expand this line of products this year with the introduction of a Hot Wheels Junior laptop (June), a Batman Junior laptop (July), a Star Wars Junior Clone Trooper laptop (September), and a Batman laptop (July).
