CAYMAN ISLANDS — Garmin International this month will begin supplying BMW with a custom Nuvi 360 personal navigation device (PND) as a dealer-installed option for the BMW 1 and 3 series.
Garmin also supplies Volvo and MINI with custom Nuvi solutions.
The BMW solution features a customized bracket that lets owners mount the Nuvi directly onto the instrument panel rather than onto the windshield. The bracket also eliminates a PND's dangling power cord because it powers the Nuvi from a wire running behind the dash.
"It integrates seamlessly into the vehicle," said Roger Jollis, Garmin OEM and mobile marketing director.
The Nuvi will display the BMW logo on its case and on its welcome screen, and it will come preloaded with a database of BMW dealers. The device features 3.5-inch screen Bluetooth, MP3 player and audio book player. The retail version retails for a suggested $587, but the price of the BMW version is up to the dealer, said Garmin.
