Amazon, Pepsi Partner On MP3

By Alan Wolf -- TWICE, 1/21/2008

SEATTLE, WASH. — Amazon.com and Pepsi are teaming up on Pepsi Stuff, a massive collect-and-get program in which consumers can download tunes from Amazon MP3, the e-tailer's new DRM-free music store. Four billion specially-marked Pepsi packages will allow people to collect points and redeem them for music that can be played on virtually any digital portable device including iPods, organized in any music management application, or burned to a CD.

Beginning Feb. 1, consumers purchasing Pepsi products can "bank" their points on PepsiStuff.com and redeem them for music on Amazon MP3, with five points earning consumers one MP3 song download. Amazon MP3 currently offers the largest selection of a la carte, DRM-free MP3 music downloads, with nearly 3.3 million songs from more than 270,000 artists on EMI Music, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and other music labels. The effort, described by Pepsi as its "biggest promotion ever," will make its debut during the Super Bowl.
