Tributaries Debuts HXC5 System

By Lisa Johnston -- TWICE, 11/19/2007

ORLANDO, FLA. — Tributaries Cable introduced the HXC5 HDMI-over-CAT-5 system earlier this month.

Joe Perfito, president of Tributaries, told TWICE that this kind of system is going to "dominate" in the future. "We're going to see offshoots of this type of product," he said.

Designed as a simple solution for sending an HDMI signal over distances up to 164 feet, the HXC5 is billed by the company as being virtually loss-free. It uses balanced/unbalanced signal processing that is meant to ensure full hi-definition signal integrity for all video formats up to and including 1080p.

The system and is HDMI v1.2-and HDCP compliant, and is packaged as a complete, ready-to-connect system. According to the company, installation is as simple as plugging and playing.

The HXC5 requires a double-run of standard CAT-5/-5E/-6 network cabling. It has a $600 suggested retail and will begin shipping next month.
