Blu-ray Disc Giveaway Extended

BY GREG TARR -- TWICE, 10/22/2007

Los Angeles — Members of the Blu-ray Disc Association said they are extending their five-free Blu-ray Disc movie promotion through the holiday buying season.

The offer, which began this summer, enables purchasers of Blu-ray Disc players from six consumer electronics manufacturers to receive five free Blu-ray Discs from six participating Hollywood studios.

Consumers who purchase any qualifying Blu-ray player, including PlayStation3, between Oct. 1 and Jan. 31, 2008, will be able to choose five free Blu-ray movies from among 18 titles.

The participating companies said they plan to support the promotion “with a significant ad spend — more than double that of the summer wave — including major online, gaming, men's lifestyle, entertainment and business outlets.”

Participating studios include: Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, MGM Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Home Video.

Involved hardware manufacturers include: Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Sony Electronics and Sony Computer Entertainment.

The 18 titles offered in the mail-in giveaway include: “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Wild Hogs,” “American Psycho,” “Chain Reaction,” “The Devil's Rejects,” “Flight of the Phoenix,” “Full Metal Jacket,” “Hart's War,” “The Last Waltz,” “Omen 666,” “The Patriot,” “The Prestige,” “Species,” “Stir of Echoes,” “Superman: The Movie,” “SWAT,” “Swordfish” and “Ultraviolet.”
