Mio PND Adds Street Announce At $249

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 10/8/2007

NEW YORK —Two personal navigation devices (PNDs) planned by Mio for fall shipment include one of the lowest priced models to announce the street names of upcoming turns.

The company's new DigiWalker C230 offers text-to-speech pronunciation of street names at a suggested retail of $249. It also offers an improved 3.5-inch screen for better viewing in bright sunlight and preloaded U.S. maps. The C230 will be available Oct. 1 in such stores as Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA and RadioShack.

The Mio C230 joins a Navigon PND, the 2100, that also announces street names at $249.

Also here at the Digital Life show, Mio unveiled a top-of-the line $599-suggested DigiWalker C720t PND with 4.3-inch screen, 2-megapixel camera, media player and ability to store geo-coded photos. The latter feature lets users snap a photo of an intersection or location and then navigate to it in the future. The photo feature was first offered by Navman, which was purchased by Mio parent Mitac six months ago.

The C720t, due Oct. 1 in stores such as Best Buy, also offers real-time traffic capability, Bluetooth, text-to-speech pronunciation of street names and a full media player. It has built-in maps of the United States, Canada and three Mexican cities along with major Mexican roads.
