Proton Shows CS LCD TVs

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 9/3/2007

DENVER — Precision video display manufacturer Proton will be bringing dealers to its suite at the Westin here at CEDIA this week to show its new high-performance-value CS series LCD TV line up.

The line includes the 32-inch ($899 suggested retail), 37-inch ($1,099), 42-inch ($1,699) and 47-inch (price to be announced) screen sizes. All incorporate a new A11 chassis solution that features completely re-engineered circuitry by Proton lab.

All models but the 1,366 by 768 CS-32 feature full 1,920 by 1080p resolution.

The series incorporates the company's Puriti Video Enhancement Technology, which provides 3D de-interlacing and edge enhancement to produce a smooth edge on moving objects; automatic black level expansion (ABLE), which detects detail lost due to a lack of contrast and automatically corrects for the best contrast; and a 3:2 pull-down algorithm that converts film sources and prevents loss of picture quality during conversion.

The CS 42 and CS 47 feature, three HDMI inputs, and a factory preset Game Mode for video game users.

Proton is also announcing here that it will be shipping the Proton Premier Series in the early fall. The line will serve as Proton's "paramount technology statement."

The top of the PS line will be the 52-inch PS 52 ($3,799), which has all of the features in the CS line plus 10-bit video processing, which yields an output of 1 billion colors, up from 16.7 million in 8-bit systems.

The PS models will also feature Full HD 1080p and four HDMI inputs. Cabinet styling uses extruded aluminum.
