Marantz Joins Blu-ray Ranks

By Staff -- TWICE, 9/3/2007

DENVER — Marantz will unveil at CEDIA Expo its first Blu-ray Disc (BD) player, a six-source HDMI switcher and a pair of 1080p DLP projectors

The two new 1080p DLP projectors will replace currently available models.

The DLP projectors include the company's first 1080p model priced to sell for under $10,000 when it ships in September, and a step-up model to replace the current $18,000 VP-11s1.

New entry model VP-15S1, which will replace a 720p model, adds vertical stretch, a brighter display, and higher contrast performance, the company said.

It will incorporate the Gennum GF9351 video processor, which is completely programmable and can do calculations on the order of 500 million floating point operations per second. Four Anamorphic lens options (2 motorized and 2 fixed) will be available for placement options.

The step-up 1080p projector, model VP-11S2, replaces the $18,000 VP-11s1 1080p projector and will add a brighter display with higher contrast performance.

It will continue to offer vertical stretch to eliminate bars on the top and bottom of the screen when projecting 2.35:1 aspect-ratio movies.

Exact specs and pricing on the Blu-ray player were still being determined at press time.
