IASCA Launches Marine Audio 'Floatoff'

By Staff -- TWICE, 7/16/2007

MARBLEHEAD, OHIO — IASCA participated in one of the industry's first "Floatoff" boat audio competitions, held July 6-7 in a popular resort town on the shores of Lake Erie.

IASCA operations director Moe Sabourin said, "I believe this is the beginning of a new wave of mobile electronics competition that will grow and become popular in the future."

About 20 to 30 boats participated in the competition and dozens of others attended IASCA's teaching clinic while about 2,000 people were onlookers. Sabourin said the event served to raise consumer awareness.

"We think that area will definitely see a surge in marine electronics sales over the next 30 to 90 days. Many people didn't think they could get marine audio for their boats, or they were under the impression that it would cost multiple thousands of dollars," Sabourin said, noting a basic marine system starts at about $500.

He added, "This is the first-ever boat soundoff in our history, or that we are aware of in any sanctioning organization."

The "Floatoff" was sponsored by Anchors Away Marina in Marblehead, Ohio. Sabourin said the event will be repeated next year with additional sponsors.
