New XM CommanderMT Has Mini-Tuner

WASHINGTON — XM Satellite Radio introduced the CommanderMT, XM's first in-car product to use the new XM Mini-Tuner, a new postage stamp-sized cartridge that acts a portable XM subscription.

The CommanderMT, manufactured by Audiovox, is designed for mounting in the dashboard or elsewhere, and it works with the existing car radio to provide XM service through an FM modulator. This new version of the Commander comes with an outboard Mini-Tuner adapter that can be placed anywhere in the car. Users can transport their Mini-Tuner cartridge to the home for use in one of several receivers now compatible with the cartridge, including a Polk iSonic radio, Crosley Explorer 1, Panasonic Home Theater System (SCPT650) and Sony NHS-3030 "whole-house" A/V system. The Mini-Tuner is also expected be compatible with future portable products.

The first Mini-Tuner device on the market was the portable/wearable Samsung Nexus that has since been discontinued.

The CommanderMT has alerts for a favorite song, artist or sports team. It is available at a suggested retail of $179, including the Mini-Tuner cartridge.
