Toshiba Expands Qosmio Notebook Line

By Staff -- TWICE, 7/16/2007

IRVINE, CALIF. — Toshiba's digital products division has added three models to its line of 15.4-inch Qosmio F45 A/V notebooks.

According to a release, each Qosmio F45 models feature two Harman Kardon Bass Reflex stereo speakers, a built-in subwoofer and Dolby Home Theater technology.

The models also incorporate 1024MB of flash-based Intel Turbo Memory Technology storage and features a DVD SuperMulti drive with Labelflash, which allows users to laser-etch labels and images directly onto specially-coated DVDs.

The lineup also incorporated the draft 802.11n wireless protocol.

Of the three new models, the F45-AV410 is said to be available at www.toshibadirect.com. It carries a suggested retail of $1,299 and comes packaged with Windows Vista Home Premium.

Two other models are available with Windows Vista Ultimate: the F45-AV411 at $1,349 and the F45-AV413 at a suggested $1,309, which features two Serial-ATA 120GB hard disk drives; the other two models each use single 200GB Serial ATA hard disk drives.

In other product news, late last month Toshiba launched the A215 Satellite notebook series, which is powered by a variety of AMD's Turion 64 dual-core mobile processors.

This is the first time AMD processors have been used by Toshiba in a Satellite notebook since 2000, a company spokesman said.

There are seven models under the A215 label that will sell through retail. While these can be found in several configurations, a basic model will feature an AMD Turion 64 X2 Dual-Core Mobile Technology Gold Edition processor, 2GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 250GB hard drive, DVD SuperMulti Drive, 15.4-inch display, ATI Radeon X1200 graphics card with 128MB of memory, and a built-in Web cam and microphone. A model thus configured would carry a price in the $899 range. A full-featured model with a faster processor, more memory and higher-end graphics card will run about $1,299.

The A215 is also one of the first Toshiba lines to feature Skype's communications suite. This is part of a deal between Toshiba and Skype that will place Skype software on select configurations of the Satellite A215, Satellite X205, Tecra M8 and Qosmio F45 series.
