Samsung's CE Sales Up 48% In '00

SEOUL, KOREA -Sales in 2000 for the Digital Media System Business at Samsung Electronics, which include mainstream consumer electronics products such as television and phones, climbed 48 percent, hitting $7.4 billion, compared with $4.9 billion in 1999.

Year-end sales in Samsung's Home Appliances Business, which include major appliances and brown goods, jumped 25 percent to $2.1 billion, up from $1.7 billion the previous year.

The Digital Media segment accounts for about a 27 percent share of total sales, while Home Appliances accounts for about 8 percent. Samsung's largest segment, its Semiconductor Business, accounts for about a 38 percent share of total sales.

Operating profit in 2000 for Samsung's Digital Media System Business hit $402.6 million, while operating profit for the Home Appliances Business in 2000 reached $161 million.

Samsung Electronics' consolidated sales in 2000 were about $33.3 billion, while the Samsung Group recorded sales of about $27.2 billion and net income of about $4.8 billion.

The Samsung Group expects to achieve sales of about $29.4 billion in 2001, an 8 percent increase over results in 2000.
