ORLANDO, FLA. — Pantech is expanding its GSM selection with five new North American GSM handsets. They include the company's first U.S. market music-centric phone, first two W-CDMA phones for the U.S. and first phones with stereo Bluetooth. One model is promoted as the "world's smallest camera flip phone."
Their frequency bands of some of the handsets weren't announced at press time.
The company's first North American GSM phone launched by Cingular last year. The new models will launch through carriers in the spring and summer, the company said. Pantech-made CDMA phones are marketed in North and Latin America through UTStarcom.
Pantech dubs the C3b as an updated version of the "world's smallest camera flip phone," adding Bluetooth, changeable color face plates, mobile email, multimedia messaging and a multicapture camera. The 2.5-ounce phone is 2.72 inches by 1.69 inches by 0.8 inches with the flip closed.
The C510 is the company's first U.S.-market a music-centric phone with MP3 player, designated as such because it features dedicated front-panel and inside music controls. It's not the company's first MP3-playing handset, however. The C510 plays protected WMA downloads, including subscription downloads, MP3, AAC and AAC+. It also plays video in the MPEG-4 and H.263 formats. Other features include scrolling display, memory card slot, 1.3-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth stereo and a bright green metal casing.
The C150 is a slim, candybar phone available in white or black with stereo Bluetooth, MP3 ringtones and VGA camera.
The C600 and C710 are 850/1800/1900MHz GSM/EDGE, phones that also operate in W-CDMA mode in the U.S. 850 and 1,900MHz bands.
The C600is said to be a feature-rich but compact 3G handset with advanced multimedia components, stereo Bluetooth, Flash user interface, instant messaging and mobile e-mail.
The C710 features display, PTT capability and two speakers. It also features stereo Bluetooth stereo, 1.3 megapixel camera, a video sharing client and Flash user interface.
