Sony Printers Take To The Road

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 3/12/2007

SAN DIEGO, CALIF. — In addition to a line of new cameras, Sony added a pair of dye-sublimation home photo printers to its imaging lineup today.

Due next month, the DPP-FP70 and DPP-FP90 PictureStation printers have built-in handles and can produce a 4-inch by 6-inch photo in 45 seconds when printing from a Memory Stick memory card.

The printers feature an "auto touch-up" button to remove red eye and correct exposure automatically and SuperCoat 2 lamination for protecting photo prints.

New for Sony's printer lineup is a superimpose mode, which lets users select preset phrases and add them to photos prior to printing. The phrases can be added directly from the printer, without a PC.

The printers offer six filters for editing images prior to printing, such as a paint filter that gives photos the appearance of being printed on canvas.

They create 300 by 300 dpi images; offer slots for Memory Stick, SD/MMC and CompactFlash cards; and can work with an optional Bluetooth adapter.

The FP90 sports a 3.6-inch tilting LCD and will retail for an estimated $200.

The FP70 offers a 2.5-inch LCD screen and will retail for $140.

Sony will offer several print packs: the SVM-F40, F80P and F120 in quantities of 40, 80 and 120 sheets, respectively. The packs will retail for $20, $30 and $35, respectively.
