Vidikron Adds 65" PDP

UNION CITY, CA — High-end home theater display manufacturer Vidikron has added a 65W-inch 1,080p plasma monitor to its expanding flat-panel TV lineup.
Model VP-6500VHD ($19,995 suggested retail) joins a plasma series that currently includes the 42W-inch, 50W-inch and 60W-inch screen sizes.
The display, which Vidikron said has received THX certification, is the first in the series to provide true 1,920 by 1,080 (1,080p) resolution.
The monitor incorporates 16-bit digital video processing delivering 4,096 steps of graduation. This is said to minimize the "solarization" or "stair stepping" previously found in digital flat panels.
Also included is Vidikron's IntelliWide mode and Imagix video processing. The latter is employed in a separate VHD controller. The technologies allow full-screen viewing of 4:3 content in a 16:9 widescreen format without appreciable picture degradation.
Other product attributes include Imaging Science Foundation certification, and HDMI inputs on the VHD controller.
Vidikron also offers a version of the monitor for high-altitude viewing applications in the VP-6500VHD.
Cosmetics include a pewter, brushed anodized aluminum frame and an anodized black plasma framing option.
