Axion Unveils iPTV System

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 1/29/2007

POMONA, CALIF. — Axion used the recent International CES to preview a forthcoming iPTV designed to access content on living room entertainment systems from any location in the world.

The device, model AXN-8017, is comprised of a base station and 7W-inch wireless LCD view screen. Using a broadband Internet connection, home users can watch Internet TV content and play TV programs or music from their home entertainment systems anywhere in world, the company said.

The system, which will ship to retail in the second quarter at a $349 suggested retail, is designed to send signals from TV receivers, DVRs, cable and satellite boxes or virtually any other video source over in-home Wi-Fi networks or over the Internet to a wireless portable LCD screen.

Using a high-speed Internet connection, the unit can be taken anywhere in the world to receive content from the connected components in a living room or anywhere else in the home. No PC is required.

Axion said content can also be viewed on a laptop or desktop PC using Axion's My iTV software, which is included with the device.

"Our new IPTV shows the continued commitment from Axion and our design teams to provide cutting edge entertainment solutions at a competitive price," said Jeffrey Peng, Axion president.

Other features in the AXN-8017 include: built-in batteries with more than two hours average playing time per charge; support for JPEG, MP3 and MPEG-4 files; and a slim credit-card-style remote, which also controls hardware at home remotely.
