Sprint Launches Music Streaming

By Amy Gilroy -- TWICE, 9/11/2006

OVERLAND PARK, KAN.— Sprint announced the launch of a new music service called Sprint Radio bringing the total number of streaming music services it offers to almost a dozen.

The company also announced a sale on songs downloads from its music store.

The new Sprint Radio offers more than 50 channels of streaming radio and video including entertainment and news from NPR, ESPN and Radio Disney. It will be available for $5.95 a month and will include music genres such as urban, pop, Latin, rock, reggaeton, country, dance, spiritual and jazz. Providing the back-end content and operations for the service is mSpot, Sprint said.

Other Sprint music offerings include Rhapsody Radio which streams popular songs from Rhapsody.com and Sirius Music, supplying 20 Sirius channels. Sprint is expanding its radio offering because, “We want to ensure that our customers have as many options as possible to be entertained and enjoy music on the one device they carry with them,” said a spokesman.

A new promotion allows customers to buy two songs and receive a third song free until Nov. 15. Songs are $2.50 each. Users can listen to songs while shopping for others and can re-download a song once if it was accidentally deleted.
