dnp Intros Retractable Screen

By Colleen Bohen -- TWICE, 9/11/2006

Denver— Denmark-based dnp is rolling out its Supernova Flex Optical Front Screen during CEDIA, to be held here this week. The screen features a brushless DC motor designed to allow for fast, smooth and quiet positioning and it has a lightweight anodized aluminum enclosure.

The screen, designed to look like a picture frame, is suspended by a pair of 1/48-inch cables which are intended to be unobtrusive. The removable and replaceable cover is to be offered in a variety of finishes including a special stainable surface which the company said can be painted to match the wall for invisible installation. The company also said the screen is highly resistant to ambient light due to its use of advanced brightness and contrast enhancing technology.

dnp said the Supernova's typical contrast ratio of 20:1 is about ten times higher than typical front screen contrast levels, and that its peak gain of 2.0 makes it twice as bright as a standard front screen.

The Supernova is available in sizes up to 150-inches and comes in three screen formats: 1.33:1 (4.3), 1.78:1 (16:9) and 2.35:1 Cinemascope. The company recommends that the screen be used with a projector with a minimum throw of 1.8:1, but says it is compatible with all standard projectors.
