ViewSonic Drops Prices

Walnut, Calif. — ViewSonic has reduced the price on two of its 20-inch LCD monitors. Starting immediately the V2021m and the widescreen VX2025 are available with respective street prices of $369 and $379.

Gateway To Open Nashville Plant

Irvine, Calif. — Gateway will open a new production facility in Nashville, Tenn., later this year. The factory will initially employ about 300 people with an annual payroll of $8 million. The plant will assemble configure-to order-desktops, notebooks, servers and storage arrays. Gateway said it will utilize an existing structure in the city, enableingthe factory to be up and running by October.

Altec Lansing Refreshes Multimedia Line

Milford, Penn. — Altec Lansing has released the VS2321 2.1 multimedia speaker system. The powered speaker unit has front mounted controls, including an auxiliary jack for add-on devices such as iPods. The unit is now shipping with a $49.95 suggested retail price.

Microtek Adds Scanner For SoHo Market

Carson, Calif. — Mircokek Lab has introduced the ArtixScanDI 2020 flat-bed scanner that can scan both sides of a document in a single pass. The scanner has an automatic document feeder that can scan up to 100 pages at a time, with scanning speeds of up to 25 ppm for text and 10 ppm for color documents. The unit carries a $499 suggested retail price.

New PC Enclosure From Antec

Fremont, Calif. — Antec has expanded its Lifestyle enclosure series with the addition of the Solo for the do-it-yourself market. The chassis includes eight drive bays, four 5.25-inch and four 3.5-inch. The Solo also comes with an Antec 120mm TriCool selectable-speed fan and it includes two front fan mounts for optional 92mm fans. It is available with a $109 street price.

New Lenovo Notebooks

NEW YORK — Lenovo today unveiled its new two-unit ThinkPad Z61 series which can be pre-ordered now and will ship in June with prices starting at $699. The models come in 14.1-inch (Z61t) and 15.4-inch (Z61m) versions and use an Intel Core Duo processor. While intended for the enterprise market, Lenovo sells several SKUs through retail.
