Meridian Bows Faroudja Components

By Greg Tarr -- TWICE, 12/5/2005

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Meridian Audio used the recent EH Expo to showcase a home theater system featuring the “Faroudja by Meridian” DVP1080 digital video processor, and DILA1080pHD front projector.

The products are among the first to be marketed through the exclusive licensing agreement announced this summer between Meridian and Genesis Microchip, which owns the Faroudja name and patents.

The DVP1080 digital video processor, which is shipping now at a $6,995 suggested retail price, accepts a wide range of analog and digital video formats and delivers full-bandwidth high-definition processing, optimizing current advanced 1,920 by 1,080p digital displays by converting 1,080i interlaced HD video and other formats to a 1,080p progressive output.

The Faroudja DILA1080pHD ($37,995 suggested retail) projector features HDMI inputs to connect with HDMI DVD players, including those marketed by Meridian, and the DVP1080 HD digital video processor.

Meanwhile, Meridian announced that Coquitlam, B.C.-based Aralex Acoustics has been named the distributor in Canada for the Faroudja by Meridian video projectors and processors line. This was scheduled to become effective Dec. 1.

“It made complete sense for us to work with one Canadian distributor for both our audio and video products,” said Colin Aldridge, Meridian's sales and marketing director, “and it was evident that Aralex Acoustics, which has put so much work into selling our products over the past eight years and has made impressive headway over the last 12 months, would be an ideal choice to handle both brands.”
