Epson Updates Portable Printer

By Greg Scoblete -- TWICE, 10/24/2005

Long Beach, Calif. — Epson expanded its lineup of PictureMate portable snapshot printers earlier this month with the addition of a new Express Edition model. The company also dropped the price of its existing PictureMate printer to make room for the new addition.

The PictureMate Express Edition, for a suggested $149, offers the same features as the original PictureMate but with faster print speeds, printing a 4-inch by 6-inch photo in 80 seconds.

The printers are PictBridge-enabled and accept camera memory cards, in addition to connecting to a PC or external CD burner. An optional adapter ($69 suggested) lets the printers accept images wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Concurrent with the launch of the Express Edition, the PictureMate and PictureMate Deluxe Viewer Edition will drop to a suggested $129 and $199, respectively.

Epson offers several print packs to compliment the PictureMate. A 270-sheet glossy option for a suggested $65 lets the company achieve a cost-per-print of 24 cents, while a 100 sheet pack, for a suggested $29 hits a cost-per-print of 29 cents. The company also sells Matte paper in a 100-sheet pack for a suggested $33.99.
