X2 Launches Media Center PC

By Doug Olenick -- TWICE, 10/10/2005

Santa Monica, Calif.— X2 has introduced an IPTV capable Media Center desktop PC that will ship shortly with a $999 suggested price point.

The IPTV Mega PC has an industrial design more akin to a mini stereo system than a PC and will be powered with Dave Media Center software delivered through a partnership with online programming provider DaveTV. The DaveTV software ended its beta testing in late September.

The PC is configure-to-order, running an Intel Pentium 4 3.6GHz processor and capable of handling up to 2GB of memory, a 400GB hard drive, dual-format DVD burner and wireless and wired networking. It has a built-in TV tuner, and, like all Media Center TVs, it is a self-contained DVR. The unit is designed to sit in a living environment.

The Dave Media Center will allow users to purchase, rent, stream and download media from its library, which, as of its launch, contains 70 channels of music, videos and photos.
